Welcome one and all to an annual tradition here in my section of the blogosphere, playoff predictions! The playoffs this year are sure to be interesting. Lots of questions: Can Pittsburgh repeat? Can Ovechkin match his rival from last year? Has there ever been more goaltending issues at once? Wait a minute…Phoenix is in the playoffs? And so on, and so forth. Here to help me, as always are my good friends Jeff and Troy, as well as a coin, which I do believe bested my last year.

Looking to 2014
Sunday, March 21st, 2010Pardon me for not making any more Olympic posts a few weeks ago. After predicting that Canada would beat the US in the round-robin, I felt anything that I would say would jinx the luck of our boys. And in the aftermath, I really didn’t feel like I had all that much to say. It was amazing. It really, really was.
When thinking about the Olympic Games, there are a few things that I need to say:
1) Yes, I watched the game, even if it started at 4am here. I wrote a post about the experience over at Lost Lao Wai. I hope you’ll enjoy it.
2) Yes, I organized a pool for the Olympics. And yes, I won on the tie-breaker. First time I’ve ever won a big pool!
3) Yes, I think that the NHL players will be in Russia in 2014. There’s no reason for them not to be. It’s THE biggest way for the game to grow, and they need all the great publicity that they can get.
4) Yes, I still think that Canada will win Gold. The US team will be very good, and the Russian team will be motivated, but our team will still be the favourite.
Speaking of the 2014 team, allow me to make my first of several cracks at guessing the roster…

Looking Back at My Crystal Ball
Wednesday, January 13th, 2010Back in January I made some “surefire” predictions for 2009. some of which came true, some of which did not.
I’ve had a good tradition of predicting things before on this blog, back in 2007 I went 9-2-2 in my guesses, while last year I went 9-3-1. Could I follow it up with 2009? Let’s see..

Glen and Troy’s Quarter Season Predictacular – Eastern Conference
Monday, November 23rd, 2009Well the season is just over 20 games old and things are starting to get interesting. In keeping with a very rarely followed tradition, my hetero-life mate Troy and I are going to try and lay it on line and see where each team will be at the end of 82 games. Because of the sheer volume of writing we did I decided to split this post in two. We’ll look at the boring Conference first today.

Journey to Gold – Edition III
Thursday, November 5th, 2009They have finally named a day. On the last day of 2009, Team Canada will be officially revealed. There has been a lot of speculation, and there will continue to be a lot more as time goes on. Now that the season is 15 or so games in, there has been some movement up and down on the depth charts. Especialyl as foremer locks like Getzlaf and LeCavalier have struggled, while former long shots like Marleau and Stamkos have excelled. As I have a few times already, I’m going to try and break down the potential team and give my thoughts on who should wear the red and white come February.

Olympic Camp Breakdown
Thursday, August 27th, 2009As I type right now some of the best players in the world are in Calgary trying their heart out to represent Canada next February. Any of the 46 players at the camp would make great members of an All-Star team like this. However, once it is all said and done only 23 players (plus maybe a few alternates) will be playing. I have broken down my thoughts for most likely team that I see happening.
Of course, this is all based on speculation at this point, and making the best possible “paper team” that is available. Also, Yzerman has been clear to point out that the camp selections may not be limited to players who are attending the camp. However, I would be shocked if anyone not on this list becomes a member of the team.
Next to each player is a blurb about why I think that they will/won’t make the team, also a number between 1 and 10 for how likely I think that they are to make the team.
So without further ado…

New Year’s Resolutions: 09-10 Edition
Tuesday, August 18th, 2009Greetings on and all, it is time once more for a Glenergized Season Premiere, as I finish my summer sabbatical. Since the new school year is starting soon, I feel it important to make a few resolutions given that a new school year represents a new beginning for those of us in the field of education.

Looking Back at My Crystal Ball
Saturday, December 13th, 2008Well it’s that time of year where I look back at my most daring of predictions that I made back at the start of the year. After doing fairly well predicting 2007 with a 9-2-2 record, I can only hope that the spirits were as kind to me this time around…
1. Obama vs. Huckabee – Well I was half right!!!! To be honest, when I made this prediction, I thought that I would be half right, but I couldn’t quite figure out which half. Needless to say, I am still a little shocked at Obama’s amazing rise from obscurity to celebrity. Gotta say, good on me for this one
I’ll call it a tie…
Glen’s Prediction Record: 0-0-1
2. Prolonged Strike – In reference to the Hollywood writer’s strike said “I would be shocked if this is over by spring time.”, and well, it was over by spring time, colour me shocked. I’ll count this one as a loss.
Glen’s Prediction Record: 0-1-1
3. Abrams will not Disappoint – Uhhh…did you see Cloverfield? Also, how awesome was the finale of Lost? I have high hopes for Season 5!!!
Glen’s Prediction Record: 1-1-1
4. Score one more for California – Yes, I foolishly predicted that a team from Califronia would claim the Stanley Cup, and funnily enough, I thought that my Ottawa Senators had the best chance of ruining my prediction. Needless to say with both Anaheim and Ottawa winning a combined 2 games in the playoffs, and the Sharks bowing out the next round, I was wrong on that one.
Stupid Red Wings…
Glen’s Prediction Record: 1-2-1
5. Another Three Countries Scratched off the List – Heck yes!!!! I sure was right on this one, or will be by next week. Back in March, I went to Laos, in October I got to Malaysia, and next week, for Christmas Holidays, I will be in Cambodia. Looks like I am up to .500!!!
Glen’s Prediction Record: 2-2-1
6. The Temperature Will Continue To Rise – Yeah, an easy prediction, global temperatures continue to rise, what a surprise.
Glen’s Prediction Record: 3-2-1
7. Another Conservative Minority – Perhaps truer words have never been spoken by me than “…I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there were another Canadian Federal election, I just don’t see much coming about it.”
That was almost as obvious as the temperature thing…
Glen’s Prediction Record: 4-2-1
8. More Record Label Rebellions – Hells yeah!!!! A free album by Nine Inch Nails proves me right again. While it wasn’t as well-publicized, or even in the same artistic league as In Rainbows, it was still a coup against the record labels. Hopefully we have much more to follow from this.
Glen’s Prediction Record: 5-2-1
9. The Patriots will Lose - As January rolled on I was really starting to doubt myself on this one, but in the end when I said “I don’t know why I think this, but I have this sneaking suspicion that the New England Patriots will NOT win the Superbowl, making their 16-0 season completely worthless.” I was so right, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
Glen’s Prediction Record: 6-2-1
10. Samoa Joe will FINALLY win the TNA World Title – March proved me right here!!! Thankfully TNA got their heads out of their asses and gave Joe the big belt. Sadly, they really messed up with it once they gave it to him. Ahh well, at least this Main Event Mafia thing is going alright. Hopefully he’ll get it again soon, and they can do something great with him.
Glen’s Prediction Record: 7-2-1
11. Further Republican Misdoings – Yeah, another easy prediction. The Republicans are a bunch of screw-ups right now. I don’t know which ones to event point out, but the idea of investigating which Democrats are pro-America is a good place to start. Perhaps we can finish with any of Palin’s bizare witch hunts or Trooper scandals.
Glen’s Prediction Record: 8-2-1
12. Someone will Follow in Feist’s Footsteps – Not sure I was right on this one. While there have been some breakout musicians in 2008, few can even hold a candle to Feist’s massive iPod related explosion last year. What a shame…
Glen’s Prediction Record: 8-3-1
13. I will have a great year – Hells yeah!!! I had a great time teaching in Canada, and now I’m in China. Thigns have been busy but pretty great over here, so no complaints!!!
Glen’s Prediction Record: 9-3-1
Well not quite as solid as my record from last year, but pretty close. Tune back for my predictions for 2009! Also, while you’re here. Due to my time constraints, and my plan to go on a trip next week, I will be holding off on my 2008 in review series until the New Year, it should coincide with yet another new look to the blog to debut in 2009. I hope that you enjoy it.
Until next time,
G
