Predicting 2011

Monday, January 10th, 2011

This year is a mere 10 days old, but already a great deal has happened, from the Collapse of the Canadian Juniors, a Wild Wildcard Weekend, fears of an election in Canada, a referendum to change the map, and of course an assassination attempt.

What else will this year bring? Well allow me to check my Crystal Ball…

Looking Back at My Crystal Ball

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Way back in January, I have made the habit of trying to make a few predictions for the year.  In the past three years of blogging I have finished 9-2-2, 9-4-1, and 7-4-1, giving me a guide respectable 25-10-4 record.  Did I build on it this year or has my Nostroglenus effect worn off?

2010-11 Predictacular: Western Conference

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Well it’s time to go to the left side, where things are always interesting.  Last year this team had the two biggest surprises (Colorado and Phoenix), the biggest bust (Calgary), the biggest playoff collapse (San Jose, but really, what else is new?), and the Stanley Cup Champion.  Now this year, the champs have been retooled, last years surprises look to prove themselves, and of course the Red Wings look to reclaim their spot as top dog.  Add in the fact that the San Jose Sharks are sure to collapse in a new and exciting way, and we’ve got ourselves a very interesting few months ahead in the West.

And it should go something like this…

2010-11 Predictactular: The Eastern Conference

Monday, October 18th, 2010

Well it’s that time of the year again for the bold and daring hockey predictions for things to come! I continue today by looking at the Right Coast.  This conference tends to be a bit more conservative and easier to predict that the West.  However, last season they ended up with a 7-8 matchup in the Conference Finals.  Also some teams like the Lightning and Leafs had some pretty big roster overhauls.  So there are certain to be some surprises coming out this year.  But I think that it’ll shake out like this…

2010-11 Predictacular: Individual Awards

Friday, October 8th, 2010

It’s the most wonderful time of the year ladies and gentlemen!!!  That’s right, the NHL season is just underway! I’ve been like a kid in some kind of a store recently, getting so incredibly excited.  In the coming days I’ll be posting my predictions for the season, starting today with a look at the major NHL awards.  This is mostly so I can look back months later and claim to be right in the unlikely event that I’m right (note: if following that link, only look at who the Eastern Conference Champion is predicted to be, nothing else).

So if I’ve linked back to this in the future, then congratulate me on being right, if there are no incoming links to this, then never speak of this again.

Shades of Wrestlemania…6 Months in Advance

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Now that Sumemrslam is over (and was pretty darn awesome), it’s time to start looking towards the Biggest Event in my dorky year, Wrestlemania.  As per usual on this blog, I like to make some educated guesses as to what the card will look like come March.  Now this one promises to be extra intriguing, as we are going to be in Atlanta, and there is talk of it being WCW Themed, which could mean just about anything.  Also, add in the fact that at least two season of NXT call-ups have the potential to make their Mania Debuts here.

I think it’ll all come together like this…

Shades of Wrestlemania – 7 Months in Advance

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Well it’s been a while since I have done this.  With Money in the Bank all over and Summerslam just around the corner.  It is as good of a time as any to make some guesses for the really big show that will be coming our way in March.  I have a feeling it will be a good one.  And it may just look like this…

2012 Doomsday, Nothing New

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Why are we so obsessed with the end of days? The apocalyptic movie 2012 was a major box office success. It seems that everywhere you look there is someone spouting off about how Global Warming, Nuclear War, Sunbursts, or who knows what else is going to doom us for all of eternity.

While flicking through the various stations yesterday, I cam across a show on the History Network called “The Nostradamus Effect”. Out of morbid curiosity I decided to stop there. Needless to say, I shouldn’t have done that.

Looking Forward to Wrestlemania XXVII

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Well here we are a few weeks after the Granddaddy of them all, with only a year left until the next one!  On April 3, 2011 the Biggest Wrestling Show of the Year originates from the one place that I never thought it would, Atlanta Georgia.

And I think that the card will looking something like this…

Looking to 2014

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

Pardon me for not making any more Olympic posts a few weeks ago.  After predicting that Canada would beat the US in the round-robin, I felt anything that I would say would jinx the luck of our boys.  And in the aftermath, I really didn’t feel like I had all that much to say.  It was amazing.  It really, really was.

When thinking about the Olympic Games, there are a few things that I need to say:

1)  Yes, I watched the game, even if it started at 4am here.  I wrote a post about the experience over at Lost Lao Wai.  I hope you’ll enjoy it.

2)  Yes, I organized a pool for the Olympics.  And yes, I won on the tie-breaker.  First time I’ve ever won a big pool!

3)  Yes, I think that the NHL players will be in Russia in 2014.  There’s no reason for them not to be.  It’s THE biggest way for the game to grow, and they need all the great publicity that they can get.

4)  Yes, I still think that Canada will win Gold.  The US team will be very good, and the Russian team will be motivated, but our team will still be the favourite.

Speaking of the 2014 team, allow me to make my first of several cracks at guessing the roster…
