Shades of Wrestlemania – 5 Weeks in Advance

Well after 5 previous attempts to predict the card for the showcase of the Immortals I’m going to lay  it on the line one final time. After Edge’s shocking return at the Royal Rumble the Wrestlemania card really is up in the air at the moment.  Some things seem to be taking shape, but as we witnessed last year, things can change around at the last minute.

So for the final attempt…

As usual the matches are in the expected order of appearance…

Pre-Show Match
NXT Lumber Jack Match

Matt Hardy vs. Carlito

This really is just a match to get the NXT brand over a bit, and I’m not sure what else to do with these two wrestlers.  They are both scheduled to be trainers for the new show (which sounds awesome by the way) and to give them a mach with the young wrestlers serving as lumberjacks (and getting involved).  I read that William Regal may be replacing someone as a tutor.  If so, he may be more fitting for the match than Carlito.

Pyro, God Bless America, blah, blah, blah.

Mask vs. Hair Match

Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk

This is reportedly a big match that both men want, and really it makes a lot of sense.  Neither of them are going to be in main event matches, and neither are going to win the Money in the Bank Match.  Also, they seem to have a feud blossoming, and Punk’s recent gimmick seems perfect for someone to shave him and make him less of a hippie Jesus.  Rey winning and Punk getting shaved would be a great way to start the big show.

Money in the Bank Match

John Morrison vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Christian vs. Drew McIntyre
vs.  R-Truth vs. Evan Bourne vs. Jack Swagger vs. Shelton Benjamin

They have recently announced that Money in the Bank will be featured as it’s own Pay-per-view in the summer, putting this match in Jeopardy.  However, I think that it’ll happen here one last time.  Otherwise they would need to figure out something to do with the upper mid-card.  I put these wrestlers in order of winning.  I can’t seem to get past Morrison winning, with his DVD coming up it just seems natural.

Grudge Match

Ezekial Jackson vs. Kane

Playing the part of Kane at Wrestlemania 23 is…the final ECW Champion, Ezekial Jackson!  I think that the WWE has big plans for Big Zeke, and a chance to defeat a well known monster (and stepping stone) on such a big stage could be great for the big guy.  It won’t be pretty, but it’ll be something.

Legacy Explodes

Randy Orton vs. Ted Dibiase vs. Cody Rhodes

A lot of people have been talking for a long time of doing a straight up Orton-Dibiase match, but I think that this one is better, and more interesting.  All three members are having trouble with one another and a big match between them would be great.  It’ll also be good to have a triple threat match that has nothing to do with a title.  It would be interesting to pick a winner for this one, but I would go with Ted.

Unifed Tag Title Match

ShowMiz (c)  vs. MVP and Mark Henry

I did have Miz-MVP for the US Title down for a long time, but then they went out and gave the tag titles to the Big Show and Miz.  If they were extra good they could have a two-fall two-title match for both of the Miz’s Title with his US Gold being put up for grabs in either a straight up one-on-one match with MVP or in a Fatal Four-way with all men.  That would be awesome, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

WWE Title Match

Sheamus (c) vs. Triple H

Another match that seems destined.  Apparently Triple H is really high on Sheamus and wants him to be a new main eventer.  The WWE is blessed with a few other big time interpormotional matches which means that the WWE Title Match doesn’t have to be that big of a draw, similar to Angle-Eddie from Wrestlemania XX.  I think that the match has a better vibe with Sheamus going in as champion, otherwise it’s a tad too obvious.

Interpromotional Match

John Cena w/ Bret Hart vs. Batista w/ Vince McMahon

Now *THIS* is how this match should have happened.  Not thrown onto a PPV with 3 weeks of build like it was in 2008.  These guys are going to have a legitimate dream match and the addition of Bret Hart and Vince McMahon makes it all the more compelling.  Some people have thought about a tag match, but I really don’t think that Bret Hart could handle anything more than:  punch, sharpshooter…which could be awesome.  Still, I think that’ll happen right after, maybe as an added stipulation.

All-or-Nothing Diva’s Tag

Maryse and Michelle McCool vs. Gail Kim and Mickie James

A Diva’s Tag Match featuring the champions and the contenders.  I think that Maryse is going to win the Diva’s Title so to have it be a joint defense could be interesting…or as interesting as it gets.

The Ultimate Rematch

Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker

I know that I thought that this was going to be a red hearing, but not anymore.  It’s bound to happen.  It’s got to happen.  Damnit, it’s going to happen.  These two are intent on putting on another classic, so I say let them.  Hopefully they don’t disappoint.

World Title Match

Chris Jericho (c) vs. Edge

This match has legitimately been on 5 of the 6 card that I predicted.  With Edge winning the Rumble, it is all but set in stone.  These guys are going to put on a classic.  I really hope that Morrison (or Kingston or Christian) cashes in their briefcase to face the winner of this match.  It would be legendary!!!

Alright, I’ll be posting about this card in 37 days or so.  We’ll have a look at what it’s like then!

Until next time,

G
