Shades of Wrestlemania – 2 months in Advance

Well ’tis the season, as it continues to be.  And my nerdy-80s child fanboy heart is starting to run wild.  In two days it will be the Royal Rumble, and then two months from then it’ll be the Granddaddy of them all, Wrestlemania XXVI!  In keeping with my usual tradition, I’m going to try to predict the card for the big show.

There have a been a huge amount of speculation as to what the card will be, much earlier that usual this year.  A lot of talk about HBK-Taker, Cena-Taker, Hart-Vince, and a whole host of other big matches that could take place.  In two days the road map will start to be drawn, and I think it’ll go as follows…

Dark Match
ECW Title Match – Lumberjack Match

Ezekiel Jackson (c) vs. William Regal vs. Vance Archer vs. Shelton Benjamin

A match to give the ECW people one of their dying moments.  Slapping together one current feud and one future one into one match to get the crowd going and to give old ECW fans something to complain about.

Pyro, God Bless America and all that other opening stuff

US Title Match

The Miz (c) vs. MVP

This has been one of the best mid-card feuds going since MVP-Matt Hardy a few years ago.  Hopefully with the Rumble, and then the Elimination Chamber they can hold off on the one-on-one match until the big show.  This keeps both of them out of the Money in the Bank, and serves as a great opening match.

Money in the Bank Match

Kofi Kingston vs. John Morrison vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Christian vs. Kane vs. Evan Bourne vs. Jack Swagger vs. R-Truth

The big match involving some of the best and brightest that the mid-card has to offer.  I think that it’s pretty much a lock that either Kingston or Morrison are going to win and use it to get into the main event.  Everyone else in the match should help make it a fun ride.

The Biggest Match

Sheamus vs. Big Show

Sheamus is in a bit of an awkward place.  He is in kind of a similar situation to Kurt Angle from 2001.  They want to make a new star, but don’t want to put him in the top few matches.  With the other big names all rather locked up, I think it would be a good idea to put him in with the Big Show.  It’ll let him look dominant against a proven main eventer.

Legacy Explodes

Randy Orton vs. Ted Dibiase vs. Cody Rhodes

The tension is building between these three in recent weeks.  Everyone keeps saying that Dibiase will get kicked out, but some think that Orton will, but both scenarios leave Cody Rhodes in the cold.  I think that these three are going to split in three setting up a match between all three of them, with Dibiase pulling out the win.

Last Man Standing Match

Batista vs. Rey Mysterio

I know that this match has been done to death, but I think that these two are pretty much inseparable at this point.  Rey will lose his match to The Undertaker, and somehow or another Batista will “injure” him only for Rey to return sometime and get revenge, setting up a big main showdown at the big event.

Unified Tag Title Match

CM Punk and Luke Gallows (c) vs. The Hardy Boyz

Now this is the biggest stretch of all the matches here.  I know that Jeff Hardy has appeared on TNA, ut he has yet to sign a contract.  But I still think that Jeff will sign with the WWE, especially for a potential Wrestlemania Title win with his brother.

Revenge Match

Chris Jericho vs. Edge

This match has been pretty much set in stone since July when they won the Tag Titles.  There are rumours that Edge will be returning soon (possibly at the Rumble).  This should be the best match of the night.

Diva’s Tag Match

Maryse and Michelle McCool vs. Mickie James and Gail Kim

The usual women’s match in there somewhere.  NEXT.

WWE Title Match

Triple H (c) w/ Vince McMahon vs. Shawn Michaels w/Bret Hart

This could alternately be called the “Hell Froze Over Match”.  I don’t think that Vince-Bret can have a real match due to Hart’s medical condition.  So the next best thing would be to see Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels on the same page.  This match has been building since November, as the D-X tension has to be going somewhere.  Also, I know that they have been hyping HBK-Taker, but I think that it’s all a red hearing.  H will cost Shawn the Rumble, to stop him from setting up his “dream”.  H will then win the title at the Elimination Chamber, and Shawn will come for him.

World Title Match

The Undertaker (c) vs. John Cena

This is undeniably the biggest match that the WWE has to offer, and why not do it now?  I thought that they were going to do it last year, and there was a lot of talk back in the fall of this being the big one.  Since then there has been a few other people like Sheamus, Michaels, and Bret Hart thrown into the mix, but it’s all part of the rocky Road to Wrestlemania.

So will it be going this way or not?  We’re going to find out the start to it this weekend…

Until next time,

G
